Celebrating his 80th birthday in 2016, English musician Colin Mawby made a significant contribution to the musical life of the Catholic Church in the UK and beyond, which was recognized in 2006 when Pope Benedict XVI knighted him in the Order of St. Gregory the Great "in gratitude for past and ongoing services to the church music." Mawby was a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, where he later became a Master of Music in 1961. His extensive work as a composer includes 24 masses, five vocal cycles and a large number of works for choir. Moby's compositions are distinguished by a wide variety of styles and sounds, which is demonstrated in the repertoire on this CD.
