Melbourne-based artist Alex Hamilton grew up behind St Kilda’s iconic Espy. A VHS of The Last Waltz may have held his destiny. He loves everyone from Neil to Bob, Joni to Townes and things George Jones is the greatest. He’s made music with his Melbourne friends including Courtney Barnett, Grace Cummings and the Merri Creek Pickers and when you hear Hamilton’s folky-country-rocky songs, visions of suede and whisky come to mind. Alex Hamilton has traded in bells and whistles for an honest melody, creating a world where poetic introspection walks hand-in-hand with climactic choruses that demand to be sung. His timeless sound is also unique in its delivery, with influences reaching to the heroes of the ‘70s and the kings and queens of country. Whether alone or in the company of his band, Hamilton’s poetry finds its way to the soul.
