Randy Weston - African Sunrise (1992)

If you can only get one Randy Weston album, this is definitely the one to get. Originally released as a double album, Spirit of Our Ancestors, they soon released this abbreviated version. Good choice, as the double album had a fair amount of filler. This starts out with the definitive version of African Cookbook (Weston has recorded this several times) which knocks my socks off every time I hear it. A tour de force performance. And the rest of the album is almost as good. HIghly recommended, it's one of my favorite jazz albums of all time.
