Saga Jazz: Jazz à la gitane (Bands of Gypsies)
In Paris in the mid-Thirties, Django Reinhardt was instinctively sketching the contours of a brand-new musical style. Quickly, Hungarians, Czechs, Norwegians, Swiss and Corsicans, gypsies or not, adopted this flamboyant jazz form, gypsy-style. In their hands, following the footsteps of the inestimable guitarist, the legacy was safe.

Saga Jazz: Jazz à la gitane, Vol. 2 (Gypsy Jazz Around the World)
Call it “Gypsy Jazz” or whatever, this is the kind of jazz invented by the genius named Django, and played by his Romany family and his family’s family, and all his accomplices, who are invariably to be found here, either with or without him. But as a bonus there are also the others, those they call the “Gadgés” or non-Gypsies, those who let themselves be seduced by the strength and originality of this fresh, new sound in the four corners of the Earth, from the North Pole to Tierra del Fuego. Saga Jazz: Jazz à la gitane, Vol. 3 (Round About Django)
This third volume of “Jazz à la Gitane” pays tribute to the prolific composer of over a hundred pieces. Some are well-known and often performed, while others are more secretive and less frequently evoked, sometimes brought up to date by new jazzmen recently won over by the Reinhardtian discourse. Without Django, these melodies obviously take on a different dimension, on the way to those American “standards” that the whole jazz world can shape as it pleases.

Django Reinhardt loved women, and they loved him right back. Django and women, but also women and gypsy jazz: an entourage of muses to stimulate the imagination, and a saraband of names owing everything to the passion that the daughters of Eve can set ablaze. The leitmotif in this fourth volume of the history of jazz with a gipsy touch is the philtre d’amour.
