James Robinson, who is backed by a small rhythm section (usually bass and percussion) on some numbers, plays an acoustic nine-string guitar. His style is flamenco-oriented but he also improvises melodically so his music crosses a lot of genres. He is a virtuoso who often shows a great deal of restraint, caressing themes before constructing an impressive and speedy run of notes. Robinson's pleasing sound and ability to play flamenco, Latin music, jazz, and pretty melodies should make this set of interest to a wide audience, even if it gets a bit sleepy in places. © Scott Yanow
