Tom Cabrera - Blues for Nothin' (2024) [Hi-Res]

While often finding themselves the rhythm section of a number of groups, including Rocco Iacovone’s gigging quartet, this trio plays frequently and has so for almost a decade now. Their repertoire is enormous; music from the jazz tradition, complete extemporaneous playing and original compositions. This time Tom Cabrera, Jack DeSalvo and Phil Sirois play DeSalvo's original compositions. With the tracks Of Course, Bar Dust and Cado, the composer used the harmonic basis of jazz standards but with new melodies in a practice, popularized if not invented by Charlie Parker, called Contrafact. So this trio of veteran improvisers blaze through these swinging tracks with a contemporary edge.
