Bel and Quinn - Donte sann yo (2023)

The title of the sisters’ most recent album means “Tame the Ashes”—a fitting follow-up to their previous EP, Fanm nan dife—or, Woman on Fire. “With this album, we say, ‘Okay, everything is on fire, but now what do we do?” explains Bel. “The songs are really for healing, for freedom, and just to say that you gotta follow your heart, no matter what happens.” The album’s an ode to the matriarchy, to the many Haitian women that came before them—a celebration of Black women. For the album, they put together a 14-person all-female big band. “We really wanted to say, ‘Hey, we’re women, we’re talented,’ and we wanted to show that,” says Bel. “So it’s really important to us that we only play with women all the time.”
