Joe D. Nelson (Jody Nelson) has been writing songs about the strangeness of being for many years, using details, surrealism, and science fiction. His characters live in the real world but are puzzled by their surroundings — from amphibians to cowboys afraid of horses. His songs include a man in a "water suit," living tarot cards, and mysterious fruit.

His solo album Iced Cherries was recorded on analog tape with an acoustic guitar. The music echoes Bruce Cockburn, Fred Neil, and Joe Pass. The album is complex but sounds effortless and natural. Nelson performed the songs sequentially, selecting the best versions from multiple studio sessions.

During the pandemic, he honed his playing and explored new guitar tunings. All these efforts resulted in an album that leaves a feeling of happiness and ease.
