Alex E. Chavez - Sonorous Present (2024) [Hi-Res]

Alex E. Chavez's debut album, Sonorous Present, is a poetic and musical journey exploring loss, migration and mourning in the borderlands of the Americas. The album was created in collaboration with producer Quetzal Flores and combines Mexican and Latin American musical traditions with an avant-garde jazz sound and field recordings. The album features poetry written by Roger Reeves and is an elegy about love and loss. Recorded in Los Angeles and Chicago, the album also features stunning musical scenes created in memory of loved ones. Acclaimed performers such as Martha Gonzalez, Aloe Blacc and Ramon Gutierrez participated in the recording. “Sonorous Present” is a bold and moving work that reveals new aspects of Chavez's work and emphasizes the significance of cultural intersections and personal grief.
