Gershon Kingsley was a German-American composer and a pioneer of electronic music, best known for his experiments with the Moog synthesizer in the 1960s and 1970s. "Popcorn" is Kingsley’s most famous composition, written in 1969 and first released on his album Music to Moog By. In 1972, Kingsley re-recorded Popcorn with his group, the First Moog Quartet, focusing on a live performance using modular synthesizers. This was the first group to perform with Moog synthesizers in a live concert at Carnegie Hall — quite revolutionary for its time.
