Octotrip, Leïla Martial, Anisssa Nehari - Atrahasis (2025) [Hi-Res]

"ATRAHASIS", inspired by the tale from Sumerian mythology, is the name we chose to explore the origins of all civilizations while closely examining the notion of the “collective.” The idea for this collaboration with Leïla Martial and Pierre Tereygeol emerged during a mesmerizing concert by the group Baa Box at Le 360 in Belleville in 2021.

Very quickly, it became clear that we needed to create a piece—a suite—composed by Pierre Tereygeol, that would be a strange and indefinable sonic object. A sensory journey, an invitation to delve into ancient cultures and buried rituals, into languages drawn from the collective imagination…

During a second residency, the idea evolved into a true encounter. Anissa Nehari joined the project, and her digital percussion seamlessly merged with the sacred dimension of our creation. The sounds of the calabash, bendir, cajón, and frame drums—like ancient instruments—wove a sonic cocoon around our ensemble, highlighting every breath, every nuance, and elevating Leïla’s hypnotic voice.

Thus, Atrahasis was born: a shamanic ritual, a ceremony from another time—perhaps from another world—rediscovered by an archaeologist of the future.
