Five years after his masterpiece Limbo, the rule-breaking, genre-defying American singer and rapper Aminé is back with a third album entitled 13 Months of Sunshine. On the more low-key album Kaytraminé, released in 2023 alongside Kaytranada, he’d already started veering toward house music, a shift he’s now fully leaning into with this dance-centric new album, especially on the tracks produced by Dahi (a frequent collaborator of Kendrick Lamar) and FNZ. The same goes for the ones featuring Jim-E Stack, who produced the single “Familiar,” or the trusty Pasqué. Yet rap is still very much on the menu: the outstanding track “Temptations” is a bit less fast-paced, its deep vocals running the show much like Channel Tres does from time to time. Marching to the beat of his own drum, Aminé takes nimble, intelligent detours through different genres and styles, adding yet another great album to his discography.
