Jerk - as day breaks (2026) [Hi-Res]

On May 15, 2026, Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Joni Kinney, known as Jerk, released the EP "as day breaks" via DeepMatter Records. The project serves as the daylight counterpart to 2025's "as night falls," shifting the narrative from nocturnal introspection to warmth, clarity, and presence. Created alongside longtime collaborative drummer Martine Wade, the 7-track EP chronologically soundtracks a single day—bridging sleep and wakefulness in the focus track "still dreaming" and expanding into daytime momentum through singles like "steppin out" and "alarmed." Stylistically, the release cements Jerk's evolution away from simple lo-fi beatmaking toward a sophisticated blend of electroacoustic jazz fusion, soulful grooves, melodic minimalism, and house rhythms.
