In a Sea of Stars is a live album by violinist Zoë Aqua, blending Transylvanian folk with klezmer tradition in a luminous cross-cultural conversation. Recorded in historic synagogues in Romania, the album reflects Aqua’s two-year Fulbright residency, where she immersed herself in village music, regional fiddle styles, and deep ethnographic listening.

From hypnotic învârtită rhythms to soulful hârțag grooves, the album reframes Jewish musical heritage through a lens of Romanian rural life. Aqua’s playing is both grounded and celestial — a violinist who collects and distills folk music into emotional medicine.

About Zoë Aqua (Short Artist Bio):
Zoë Aqua is a violinist, composer, and educator from Denver, Colorado. After a decade in Brooklyn’s Yiddish music scene, she traveled to Romania to study Transylvanian folk styles, blending them with klezmer roots. A co-founder of Tsibele and Farnakht, and former understudy in Broadway’s Indecent, Aqua is known for her expressive playing, cultural curiosity, and deep commitment to musical storytelling.
