8 Miles From Rusk is the debut album by the trio Jason Dea West and The Siskiyou Crest, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, during the summer of 2024 at Anti-Corp Recording Studio. The album features ten soulful tracks blending folk, outlaw country, and Western Americana. The lyrics, delivered through Jason Dea West’s bold and poetic vocal style, reflect authentic, firsthand personal experiences. The lineup includes Jason Dea West (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Mason Alexander (fiddle), and Amie Astelle (bass), with guest contributions from Joe Wunderle (lead guitar, track 6), Sparrow Smith (accordion/vocals, track 6; banjo, track 1), Charlie Marks (banjo, track 4), Annie Ford (viola, track 10), Hana Fleur (vocals, track 5), and Aurelia Anne Cohen and Nora Jean O’Dea (backup vocals, tracks 1 and 5). The album was mixed and produced by Dan Emery and Jason Dea West, engineered and mastered by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering in Nashville, with artwork by Vanessa Jo Bahr. Recorded predominantly live in 10 hours with minimal overdubs, the album captures a raw, vibrant energy.
