South of the Lake, inspired by a journey around South Korea, finds Wil in wonderfully reflective and serene mood, a perfect way to begin another journey around the Sun. Centred around field recordings collected when travelling, theres a feeling of perpetual forward-motion throughout the album, as if we were there with him while moving through the landscapes. The music has an incredibly refined sense of harmonic development and is also highly evocative, the soundscapes have a deeply hypnagogic quality, drawing you ever further into these beautifully formed worlds. ? Echoes of the Naesosa buddhist temple, Mugaksa temple in Gwangju, Daehan Tea Garden and Suncheon Bay Nature Reserve, mix with deftly crafted music - made using many instruments collected there too. Korean singing bowl, bells and wind chimes, tingsha, glockenspiel, chime bars, rosaries, stones and pine cones from Korea - live in synergy with Fender Bass VI, OP-1, Buchla Easel Command, Arturia Microfreak, Mellotron, Cocoquantus and various effects pedals - all at once creating soundscapes that flow in perfect harmony.
