"El Muki" is the seventh studio album by the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet, celebrating the group's 20th anniversary. Inspired by a mythical Andean guardian of miners, the album serves as a manifesto to protect and champion the essence of human-driven music in an age of artificial intelligence. It blends traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythms like lando, festejo, and marinera with the improvisational language of modern jazz. The record features eight original compositions and a unique reinterpretation of The Police's "Walking on the Moon."
