Percy Whitlock was a chorister and then assistant organist at Rochester Cathedral, so what a wise choice to record some of his choral works in this great place. The choir, as always, is in excellent shape, the diction is excellent with a typically English traditional tone. Whitlock would have been very familiar with the sounds on this disc, the organ sounded much the same as it did in his day, despite the recent restructuring of Mander, which did not change its basic character, and here it is used to great effect, accompanying the choir and being an ideal expressive means.
