De las Nieves is a sound film by the Rio-born instrumentalist Antonio Neves

An album born from the desire to experiment with the guitar, creating a cinematic narrative that follows the journey of the Latin American character De las Nieves.

De las Nieves is an album, but it can be experienced like a film. Created from the urge to compose on the guitar, Rio de Janeiro-born musician Antonio Neves—one of the most exciting instrumentalists and arrangers of today, having performed with some of the biggest names in Brazilian music such as Marisa Monte, Ana Frango Elétrico, Alaíde Costa, Jards Macalé, Erasmo Carlos, Djonga, Natiruts, and Jadsa—conceived a character and storyline for his new work. Choose where to listen.

The 11-track album tells, chronologically, the story of a Latin American man—an orphan of unknown nationality who grew up in the border city of Santana do Livramento, between Brazil and Uruguay. It is in a convent that he first encounters music, but it is in the life of a truck driver that he finds his trade. After years on the road, De las Nieves records a self-titled album that serves as a cinematic biography. Within this narrative, both the songs and the character were built hand in hand—and those who listen to the album can “watch” the film unfold.

“My connection with the guitar comes from my father (the renowned conductor and instrumentalist Eduardo Neves), who encouraged me to play it casually since I was a child. So there are old songs on the album, from memory. There are also new compositions, and tracks featuring very special guests like Dora Morelenbaum, Davi Moraes, Bebe Kramer, Jayme Vignoli, Joana Queiroz, Rui Alvim, Domenico Lancellotti, and Frederico Heliodoro. It’s an album born from a desire to create something I wouldn’t do under my own name, which is why I invented a character as an alibi to make it happen. In a way, it deconstructs my personal story and turns it into fiction—just like art does with life,” reveals Neves.

Produced by Antonio Neves and Paulo Emmery—longtime collaborators—De las Nieves features multiple instruments recorded by Antonio himself, expanding his creative possibilities. The process also allowed him to connect more deeply with Latin American culture. Sonic fusions emerge, drawing on rhythms such as milonga, shaping the tone of this character who blends cultures and experiences within himself. A wanderer of Latin America, De las Nieves is both persona and action—yet another sonic journey from the multifaceted mind of Antonio Neves.
