"Hagen" is the second album from Titanic, the ambitious, proggy, symphonic pop project of Mabe Fratti and Héctor Tosta (aka I la Católica). They continue to expand their range, folding in Kate Bush-style Fairlight vamps, speed metal riffs, vaporous synths (from Daniel Lopatin, no less) and Eli Keszler's dusted library rhythms. Following their debut 'Vidrio', this set of knotty, theatrical pop oddities harnesses the witty, unpredictable momentum of their notorious live performances.

From track to track, the album shifts dramatically, from the '80s pop aesthetics of 'Lágrima del sol' to the rapid-fire guitars of 'Gotera' that recall Mr. Bungle. Amid the chaos, tracks like 'Escarbo dimensiones' offer a palate cleanser with its 'Hounds of Love' bass and David Sylvian-inspired pads. 'Hagen' stirs in decades of ideas, wrinkling stadium rock on 'Te tragaste el chicle' and carnivalesque electro-prog on 'Libra', constantly growing and surprising the listener. OPN's contribution to 'Pájaro de fuego' is a standout, an ethereal, beatless expression on cello, voice, and field recordings lifted by Lopatin's palpitating arpeggios.
