Modeselektor - DJ-Kicks: Modeselektor (2025) [Hi-Res]

A dive into the record collection of one of Berlin's most iconic DJ/producer duos? That's the gift the DJ-Kicks compilation series, launched by the German label !K7, is giving itself for its 30th anniversary, a series helmed over time by some of the best DJs on the planet. It was therefore high time that a volume be entrusted to Modeselektor, the group formed by Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, known for the eclecticism of its influences, which range from punk to techno to hip-hop. Bronsert and Szary chose not to offer a club set, but rather a mix to listen to in the car or at home.

There is therefore plenty of variety in this 22-track selection, which starts off like Moderat, the group that Modeselektor forms with Sascha Ring aka Apparat, who is featured on the first tracks including the excellent "Permit Riddim," their highly anticipated collaboration with Kitschkrieg, the Berlin producers behind the track "Standard," a huge hit in Germany a few years ago. They alternate between tracks with almost no beats (SZARY's "PREY" or Aho Ssan's "Hero Once Been") and a multitude of gems for a sweaty dancefloor (Kaan Pirecioglu - "Spellbound," DJ Narciso - "10 Minutos," PLUS ONE - "Bonk," Chlär - "Populism Is Money"...), before finishing gently with the electronic arabesques of their friend Siriusmo, the most underrated artist in Berlin according to them, for the magical "Koko." © Smaël Bouaici
