Tondini - Tondini plays Mostar Sevdah Reunion - Disko 088 (Remix) (2025)

In 2024, Mostar Sevdah Reunion marked the band’s 25th anniversary with Bosa Mara. While the line-up of musicians has changed over the years, the original notion by producer Dragi Sestic of a Bosnian-based coalition performing modern fusion music drawn from the region’s Balkan folk styles (primarily Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian with a dash of Roma) remains a fine achievement. With Disko 088, Croatian EDM producer Tondini brings Mostar Sevdah Reunion’s repertoire, which relies heavily on sevdah and sevdalinka, two related regional styles characterised by ruminative, melancholic cues and passionate expression, into the 21st century. From the soaring vocal exultations of Antonija Batinić on ‘Srdo Moja’ to the propulsive punch of ‘Mujo Kuje Konja Po Mjesecu’ and funky gyrations of ‘Omer Beze,’ Disko 088 does a great job of creating fresh context for familiar material – at 120–130 BPM.
