Black Twig Pickers - Soon One Morning (2003)

The second album by The Black Twigs, "Soon One Morning," continues to build on the tradition of Appalachian old-time music, but with a greater focus on original compositions. The album features standout original story-songs, like "Floyd Allen," as well as elegiac instrumentals. The sound is largely defined by an unusual gut-string baritone banjo combined with resonator guitar, fiddle, and cello. Alongside the original material, the band delivers powerful and raw interpretations of traditional songs, such as "Oh Death."
