On September 15, 2015, Undertale came out and completely shook the gaming world--and my world as well. I laughed, I cried, I played the game over and over and bought it for so many friends because I was so moved by the experience and wanted to share it with the world. Of course, the music would also serve as a conduit for me to share my love for the game with the world, and I dove headfirst into arranging and performing the music.
I used Undertale's soundtrack to explore many styles, stemming anywhere from my comfort zones in jazz improvisation and solo marimba performance, to fulfilling my wildest dreams of being the front man of a rock band. I've arranged this music to play with my own band DiscoCactus, and have witnessed my arrangements be performed by percussion students and professional orchestras alike. As I write this, ten years later, the impact this game and its soundtrack have had on my life is nothing less than profound.
For years, the bulk of my solo arrangement work has existed solely on YouTube. I always wanted to try to disseminate my music beyond that platform, but I could never seem to find the time. I even planned to do this when Undertale turned five years old, just to miss that deadline completely! This time, however, I put my foot down. It's time to liberate this music.
This album is a collection of seven arrangements of mine. Some of them have been either partially or completely re-recorded for this release. One of them is brand new! They explore wildly different genres and were exercises in teasing out the threads of the soundtrack that excited me the most. In addition to being available here on Bandcamp, they're also available to listen to on most streaming platforms.
