A Los Angeles, California foursome which played a combination of jug band, folk, ragtime, and rock. The group began when Norman Greenbaum graduated from Boston University and moved to L.A. The group's name suggested a novelty or comedy act incorporating music. Their psychedelic approach was too eccentric for mainstream show business. Their single The Eggplant That Ate Chicago peaked at #52 on the Billboard Top 100 chart in December of 1966. Band members included:
Norman Greenbaum, the group's leader and guitarist
Bonnie Lee Wallach on guitar, kazoo, tambourine and other percussion
Evan Engbar, wash tub bass, wasboard, '49 Buick auto bumper, Taiwan finger piano and Tibetan temple blocks
Jack Carrington, six and twelve string guitars.
