Akuphone and The Cambodian Vintage Music Archive have released the first retrospective collection dedicated to So Savoeun, a key voice of Phnom Penh's golden age of music in the 1960s and 1970s. During this period, Phnom Penh had a vibrant music scene where the blend of East and West by rock bands, crooners, and traditional ensembles created a unique Cambodian pop style. So Savoeun's voice was outstanding—powerful yet silken, symbolizing hope and modernity. The collection features rare and long-unheard recordings, including duets with legends such as Meas Saman, Lek Savath, and Sinn Sisamouth. So Savoeun herself describes the resurfacing of these songs as opening a chest of jewels, and her music serves as a rebirth and testament to that era. Her recordings continue to resonate with the original audience and attract new generations, keeping the luminous heritage of that time alive.
