“Someone once asked me: is there not an end to Christmas songs? The answer is simple: no, there is not.
“As long as we celebrate Christmas, there will be songs celebrating the occasion in one way or the other. There is no way I can describe the feeling when another recording session is finished. We all put our heart and soul into each and every Christmas album we make, and over the years we have become a very tight bunch of people, and we know each other quite well by now - after 8 albums and 10 long tours over the past decades. So, how do we prepare for the recordings? First, I check the availability with all members of the band. Then I book the studio. After that, we write new music and choose already existing songs we believe will fit us. When we have found what we are looking for and decided what new songs we want to record, it’s about time to rehearse a little. We try out all the songs we’ve decided on. Then we make any necessary changes, experimenting with new arrangement ideas while having a really good time together. Coffee is not a bad companion on these occasions. A cinnamon bun also comes in handy.
“When it’s time to record, we meet at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm, where the engineer and his assistant have already prepared the setup. When all is said and done, after 2 days of intense studio work, we all split up, leaving the editing and mixing process to our beloved guitar player and co-producer Johan Norberg. As a little extra icing on the cake, I invited the trombone section of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra to join me on some of the most beautiful chorales I know.”
“By the way, this time the colour of the album cover is purple - it fits the occasion. Enjoy! Love, Nils”
