The Far Sound - To Heart, To Earth (2025) [Hi-Res]

Centripetal Force announces the release of To Heart, To Earth on November 2, 2025, the new full-length album from The Far Sound, the solo project of pedal steel guitarist Rick Pedrosa (a member of Abronia, Federale, Jeffrey Silverstein, Rose City Band). The album, which follows his 2023 debut, will be available on vinyl and digitally, with a CD edition that also includes The Far Sound's first, previously cassette-only, album. Pedrosa continues his exploration of cinematic, ethereal, and improvisational soundscapes, retaining the soundtrack feel of his debut. In To Heart, To Earth, he leans more into improvisation and expands the instrumentation: violin, harmonica, and live drums are added to the core pedal steel, banjo, and 12-string guitar. Pedrosa describes the album as a "bridge" that connects past sounds with looser arrangements and increased spontaneity, yet retains a narrative flow. Tracks evolved from melodic fragments and included improvised jams, such as “Reach Back and Grab Something” with drummer John Jeffrey. The album offers a "quiet journey," balancing stillness and spontaneous exploration. Pedrosa's influences include the minimalism of Bill Frisell, the transcendentalism of Pharoah Sanders, the ambient mysticism of Popol Vuh, The Grateful Dead's improvisational jams, and Italian film music masters like Ennio Morricone. The title, To Heart, To Earth, is intended as an open-ended "message" to the listener.
