The six-part, twelve-hour documentary film "The American Revolution" by directors Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the US War of Independence. The project is scheduled to premiere on PBS from November 16 to 21, 2025. The series thoroughly covers the struggle of the thirteen British colonies for independence, the formation of the new government, and the revolution's long-term global impact on the development of democracy and civil liberties. The film presents the first-person accounts of nearly 200 real-life participants, including soldiers, teenagers, Patriot and Loyalist leaders, British officers, women, African Americans, Indigenous peoples, European allies, and refugees. The soundtrack for the series, released by In a Circle Records, features both period-styled and new original compositions. Notable musicians such as Rhiannon Giddens, Jake Blount, Brooklyn Rider, Nora Brown & Steph Coleman, Hanneke Cassel, Jennifer Kreisberg, and Yo-Yo Ma participated in the recording of the album, which will be released on November 7, 2025. The music is intended to convey the atmosphere of the era and offer a fresh perspective on the historical events.
