Igor Božanić - Žega (2025) [Hi-Res]

The Žega project by singer-songwriter Igor Božanić introduces an innovative musical genre he terms sevdah noir, which merges traditional Bosnian sevdah with urban Banja Luka motifs and experimental arrangements. The album, created in close collaboration with producers Srđan and Pavle Popov, is an atmospheric and richly textured work that combines a cinematic flair with traditional melodies. The repertoire features two original Božanić compositions ("Umij me, more" and the title track "Bosna") and reimagined versions of sevdalinkas, alongside reconstructed urban songs from Banja Luka. The work is characterized by dramatic reinterpretations of classic folk songs, such as "Snijeg pade na behar, na voće", and the use of non-traditional instrumentation. Producer Srđan Popov noted that the "Žega" album is rooted in tradition but points toward new musical horizons, offering a fresh perspective on the traditional material.
