Katharine Whalen - Down Yonder (2025) [Hi-Res]

The album is a natural continuation of the jazz explorations by vocalist Katharine Whalen, best known for her work with the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It grew out of the regular performances of her ensemble, Katharine Whalen's Jazz Squad, at the "Yonder" venue in Hillsborough. This live and easygoing atmosphere inspired the creation of a jazz tribute featuring songs popularized by the legendary trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker. The recording took place at Eno House studio during a single, extended session with all musicians playing simultaneously in the same room, ensuring a warm, authentic sound reminiscent of classic jazz. The release reflects the West Coast Jazz style, delivered with Whalen's personal and soulful approach.
