Japanese Television - Automata Exotica (Remixed) (2025)

Japanese Television has released a complete re-imagining of their album Automata Exotica, featuring remixes by contemporaries including Goat Fool (GOAT), Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor), and Edgar Breau (Simply Saucer). The original album, released in March 2024, was inspired by themes such as UFOs, ritualism, robots, Northern Soul, and nuclear tension, which remain integral to this alternate version. Rather than a radical transformation, the remixes offer eight tracks that have been purposefully twisted and retuned, delivering a coherent yet refracted and unhinged psychedelic listening experience. A highlight is Goat Fool’s remix of ‘Typhoon Reggae Police’, which was influenced by GOAT. The track, originally a fusion of 60s garage and Afghan psych folk, is transformed into a strange, oppressive, surreal, and voodoo-soaked echo of its former self.
