...all I want for Christmas is...Michael! -- Wayne Harada, Honolulu Advertiser
...has outdone himself this time... -- Backstage Hawaii, USA
Hawaiian saxophonist Michael Paulo brings a uniquely Western jazz upbringing to his new album, Sax for Christmas. Drawing inspiration from Christmas songs classical ("God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"), Latin ("Feliz Navidad"), and traditional ("The First Noel,") Paulo definitely sounds like someone who grew up in both a musical family - his father was a pianist, his mother a singer - and in an island setting. The fledgling saxophonist turned down a musical scholarship to prestigious North Texas State University to tour with Hawaiian pop band Kalapana. In the early '80s, he moved to Los Angeles, and became Al Jarreau's longtime saxman shortly thereafter. Sax for Christmas is his sixth album and features guitarist Carlos Rios, bassist Freddie Washington, and percussionist Sheila E. -- JAZZIZ Magazine Copyright © 2000, Milor Entertainment, Inc. -- From Jazziz
first cut on this album is great...as is all the rest... -- John Berger, Honolulu Star Bulletin
