Mel Walker (b. 1928) was a Texas-based R&B artist whose career and success were intrinsically linked to his collaboration with influential producer Johnny Otis. Possessing a smooth vocal style heavily influenced by the blues, Walker recorded a number of significant tracks, including duets with Little Esther Phillips and solo works for the Savoy and Mercury labels. This 43-track anthology compiles his renowned chart-topping hits (such as "Mistrustin' Blues" and "Cupid Boogie") alongside previously unreleased material. The singer's artistic path was tragically curtailed by legal issues and substance abuse, leading to a decline in popularity and his premature death at the age of 36.
