This is a collection of duets by Satoshi Oishi, a leading performer with the Opera Theatre Konnyakuza, and stage actress Jun Arai. Oishi moves freely between uninhibited solo singing and duets in which he instinctively senses his partner’s breathing and sings in close rapport. Arai, with her clear, pure voice, effortlessly inhabits roles ranging from young girls to male characters, and in recent years has brought ever greater depth to her singing. When her voice intertwines with Oishi’s, the expressive possibilities of the duet expand still further.
Guided by Mariko Hattori’s eloquent piano, this album offers a full taste of the essence of “duet” as woven by two artists of distinct individuality.
