The last time King Crimson had toured the UK’s provinces was back in 1982, when five dates served as play-ins for the recording of Beat in March of that year. In 2015, Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre served as the base camp for a more extensive trek around the country.
While the performance on the 30th was a less formal Friends and Family event, essentially a private dress rehearsal, and with the 31st August gremlins behind them. The 1st of September represents the first proper evening of the tour.
Perhaps because of this, the energy levels are running exceptionally high with pieces such as One More Red Nightmare, Radical Action, and a wonderfully spacious, spacey Easy Money, and a brutal Level Five, all possessing real bite in the thematic headlines and the detail within each of the numbers.
