Paul Miro – B.O.A.T.S. (2016)

Miro’s second solo album B.O.A.T.S. (which stands for ‘Based on a True Story’), originally released in 2009, moves into more sombre musical territory. The songwriting ranges from the infectious, to the huge country soundscape of True at First Light, the throwaway cynicism of SSDD, to the stunning A cappella epilogue ‘Bring Out Your Dead’, B.O.A.T.S. cruises along with beautifully crafted melodies. Miro’s vocals are delivered with a raw passion, once again with silky layered harmonies. There is a definite American flavour to the musical delivery and arrangements, assisted in places by pedal steel guitar. A truly memorable collection of songs.
