Preceded by the breakthrough single "Odio," Conexión Divina's 2023 debut Tres Mundos represented a milestone in contemporary música mexicana. Adding a female and queer perspective to this generally male-dominated genre grouping, the sierreño act provided a voice that demanded to be heard. Now centered around singer and guitarist Liz Trujillo, the follow-up album 18 rises to the occasion with songs of heartbreak and woe such as "AUNQUE SEA EN DOS" as well as decidedly more hopeful ones like the standout "ERES TÚ <3." As she pleads for closure on the romantically haunted "PREFIERO," a genuine pain in her delivery becomes prevalent and chilling. This sense of isolation and resentfulness pervades "SOY REBELDE," a relatable sentiment that resurfaces on "MI VIDA ERES TÚ." From the urgent personal appeals of "UNA OPORTUNIDAD" to the downright philosophical musings of "AMAR Y QUERER," Trujillo leaves it all out there for listeners to absorb and process in their own way.
