Bobo & Behaja - Aia Haja? (2026)

This Franco-Malagasy quintet offers a unique synthesis of traditional Madagascar tsapiky with saxophone, free jazz, and rock elements. The project is built upon the collaboration between saxophonist and researcher Maxime Bobo and the virtuoso guitarist Behaja, a pivotal figure in the contemporary music scene of the Toliara region. Originating in the late 1970s at the intersection of rural traditions and African modernism, tsapiky is characterized by high-speed rhythms and the central role of the electric guitar. The group's work focuses not only on musical experimentation but also on the systematic study and preservation of evolving trance-like cultural forms, as evidenced by their internationally released anthologies documenting the genre's modern history.
