Quinsin Nachoff - Patterns from Nature (2026) [Hi-Res]

Quinsin Nachoff's album Patterns from Nature is a large-scale exploration at the intersection of jazz improvisation, contemporary classical music, and the physics of natural phenomena. The project centers on two major works: a four-movement suite of the same name and a three-movement saxophone concerto titled Winding Tessellations. Nachoff integrates Dr. Stephen Morris’s scientific research on emergent patterns in nature into the musical structure, sonically recreating processes such as arboreal growth, fluid dynamics, and bifurcation.

The ensemble bridges the gap between New York's jazz innovators and elite classical performers, featuring the Molinari String Quartet. The compositions draw inspiration from both avant-garde titans like Ligeti and Xenakis and jazz orchestration masters such as Ellington and Evans. Defined by intricate scoring, virtuosic saxophone solos, and an interdisciplinary approach, the work transforms rigorous scientific observations into an evocative and intuitively accessible sonic landscape.
