The debut EP Invocation by vocalist Vuyo Sotashe and pianist Chris Pattishall is the culmination of a decade-long creative partnership and profound personal friendship. The record serves as a meditative exploration of musical vulnerability and radical empathy, where jazz standards and traditional African motifs are reimagined through the lenses of minimalism and Afrofuturism. The primary focus lies in improvisational unpredictability and the intimate interplay between voice and piano, enhanced by Rafiq Bhatia’s sophisticated sound design.
