The Psyche (1975) is the third album by New York free jazz trio the Revolutionary Ensemble — violinist Leroy Jenkins, bassist Sirone, and drummer Jerome Cooper — formed in 1970 at the intersection of Chicago's AACM tradition and the New York avant-garde. Released on the group's own RE Records, the album was largely unavailable in the United States due to a simultaneous European tour that consumed the entire first pressing. The music is defined by its exceptional ensemble cohesion, Jenkins' sophisticated motivic improvisation, and a fluid interplay of solo, duo, and trio combinations that renders the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
