Andrea Claburn - Nightshade (2017)

Andrea Claburn mixes her own rich compositions with jazz standards with a wide ranging rotating team that includes Matt Clark/key, Sam Bevan/b and Alan Hall/dr as its core. She’s got a clear enunciation as Clark and company go modal on her “Lionheart” while her “My Favorite Flavor” mixes hip horns with a funky backbeat. She can get saucy on the bluesy “The Fall Of Man” and bops with confidence during “I Can’t Help It.” She shows rich vulnerability on the intimate “Turn Our The Stars” and with strings she is invitingly dramatic on “Steal Away.” Impressive mix of voice and pen.~ By George W.
