Juan Carlos Quintero - The Story of Love (The Deluxe Edition) (2026) [Hi-Res]

Colombian guitarist, producer, and composer Juan Carlos Quintero grew up in Medellín and later settled in Los Angeles, where for three decades he has developed a personal style that joins the rhythms of his homeland with the sophistication of contemporary jazz. His self-titled debut album came out in 1990 with the participation of his mentor, the legendary session guitarist Tommy Tedesco, and immediately earned him a place on World Music and Jazz radio. Since then he has released new recordings regularly, the best known being the Guitarra de Pasión series, in which the guitar moves through a wide range of genres, from Bolero, Cha-Cha-Cha, and Mambo to Bossa Nova.

His latest work, The Story of Love (May 2026), is conceived as a soundtrack to his childhood. In his youth Quintero was drawn to rock and worked on mastering solos, but the melodies his parents played at home on the piano eventually brought him back to his musical roots. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with his regular quartet, with percussionist Luis Conte and saxophonist Justo Almario as guests. Quintero has shared the stage with Gato Barbieri and Poncho Sanchez, and alongside his own records he works as a producer and composer. Whether reinterpreting a jazz standard or presenting a romantic Cuban Danzón, he describes his music as “community music with a lot of heart”: it invites listeners to hear familiar melodies anew, in a lively, high-energy performance.
