The Handover - The Handover (2024) [Hi-Res]

The Handover project, released via the Sublime Frequencies label, stands as an avant-garde manifestation of the contemporary Egyptian music scene. Musicians Aly Eissa, Ayman Asfour, and Jonas Cambien synthesize classical Arabic traditions, rural folklore, and 1970s psychedelic rock. The compositions are built upon hypnotic repetitions, meditative drones, and a gradual intensification of tempo that leads to an emotional climax. The ensemble's unique sound is characterized by the absence of percussion instruments while maintaining high dynamics and rhythmic drive, alongside the seamless integration of acoustic oud and violin with experimental synthesisers. This work reimagines ritual trance practices through the prism of free improvisation and krautrock.
