Manfred Mann’s Earth Band will perform in the MOMKult theater hall in Budapest in the spring of 2026, where the Hungarian audience can hear a legend that has been active for more than half a century and is still active today. The band has been continuously operating for more than 50 years, with a few breaks in the year, under the leadership of Manfred Mann, who continues to perform at the age of 85.
Manfred Mann on stage at the age of 85 – Earth Band to perform in Budapest in 2026
There are few bands in the history of progressive rock that have remained present for more than half a century as persistently and with such a unique sound as Manfred Mann’s Earth Band.

The formation has been operating continuously, with a few minor interruptions, since Manfred Mann took a new direction in 1971 and, after his previous more pop projects, created a more complex band based on keyboard and synthesizer sounds. Even more special is that the band is still led by the same man who dreamed it up: Mann is still an active, touring musician at the age of 85, who sits behind the keyboards with unwavering energy.

Their albums from the 1970s – including Solar Fire, Nightingales & Bombers and The Roaring Silence – are not only among the most exciting moments in the progressive and hard rock frontier of the era. These albums formed the Earth Band’s recognizable character, combining the heaviness of rock, the freedom of jazz-rock and the malleability of the British progressive tradition. The iconic recording of The Roaring Silence, Blinded by the Light, made from the Bruce Springsteen song, went straight to number one in the US – a feat that is rare for a band with such a unique world, but it is also a special interest in Springsteen’s oeuvre, since the original never enjoyed such great commercial success. The singer of the 1976 version of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band is Chris Thompson.

The band's history is full of member changes, but a stable core has developed around them over the decades. Mick Rogers was there at the beginning, John Lingwood joined in the late 1970s, and Steve Kinch has been with them on bass since the mid-1980s. The youngest member of the band is singer Robert Hart, who has been with the band for "only" a decade, but his voice naturally fits the Earth Band's multi-layered sound. This line-up still shapes the repertoire in a way that remains faithful to the great moments of the past, while preserving the improvisational freedom that was decisive when the band was born.

Manfred Mann's Earth Band's art has always been based on the ability to renew itself. In addition to the terrain of British progressive rock, rhythm and blues and the American songwriting tradition have also shaped their music, as evidenced by numerous Dylan and Springsteen covers. However, all this has never led to their own identity: the keyboard-led, conceptual, atmospheric rock sound still sounds with the same character today as it did decades ago.

On April 26, 2026, the Hungarian audience can experience all this in a space of special proximity. The more intimate, concentrated atmosphere of the MOMKult theater hall is the ideal space for those detailed compositions in which keyboard parts and distinctive melodies intertwine to build the world of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. It is a rare occasion for a band with such a long history to appear on a Hungarian stage in such a lively and authentic form – and even rarer for Manfred Mann himself to sit at the piano.

It seems that they love spring here, because their last performance in Budapest was in April 2015, and their previous, legendary concert was in April 1983 at the Budapest Sports Hall, as evidenced by a recording
