Positive Groove is the new release from Dallas multi-instrumentalist and Soultex Records founder Roger Boykin, issued in May 2026 on Now Again Records (cat. NA 8483). The album marks a continued chapter in Boykin's long creative partnership with Eothen "Egon" Alapatt's Los Angeles imprint, which has spent two decades reissuing and first-releasing recordings from the deep Soultex archive.
Boykin is a musician whose work has always resisted easy categorisation: a guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, flautist and saxophonist who came of age in the vibrant South Dallas club scene of the late 1950s and 1960s. Having founded Soultex in 1967, he built a catalogue that crossed blues, jazz, gospel and funk — several entries of which have become highly sought-after collector's items. Positive Groove demonstrates that Boykin remains a creative force, delivering the groove-oriented sensibility and lean studio aesthetic that have defined Soultex recordings across six decades.
Now Again Records — the imprint founded by Eothen Alapatt in 2002 with a focus on music from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s — provides an ideal home for this release, situating Boykin's contemporary work within a broader continuum of American funk, soul, and jazz. The result is a record that feels both timeless and immediate: Dallas history still in motion.
