Nürnberger Symphoniker, Othmar F. M. Mága - Bizet: Symphony No. 1 In C Major / Jeux D'Enfants, Op. 22 (1972) [Hi-Res]

The Symphony in C is an early work by the French composer Georges Bizet. According to Grove's Dictionary, the symphony "reveals an extraordinarily accomplished talent for a 17-year-old student, in melodic invention, thematic handling and orchestration." It was written while he was studying at the Paris Conservatoire under the composer Charles Gounod, and was evidently a student assignment.

Jeux d'enfants ("Children's Games") Op. 22, is a suite of twelve miniatures composed by Georges Bizet for piano four hands in 1871. Bizet orchestrated five of these (Nos. 6, 3, 2, 11, 12) as the Petite Suite. The remaining movements were later orchestrated by Roy Douglas (5 numbers) and Hershy Kay (2 numbers) and the complete orchestral suite has been recorded as Jeux d'enfants.

The Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra is a German orchestra based in Nuremberg. Its principal concert venue is the Meistersingerhalle. The orchestra began in 1946 as the Franconia State Orchestra (Fränkisches Landesorchester), with Erich Kloss as its first chief conductor. In the early 1950s, the orchestra accrued international acclaim for their recordings of the sound tracks to Quo Vadis and Ben Hur by Miklós Rózsa.
