Tamikrest, a prominent voice of the Tuareg people, returns with their sixth studio album, Assikel. Recorded live to 1960s-era analogue tape in the Netherlands, the album captures a raw, spontaneous energy and a deeply atmospheric sound. The record is heavily influenced by the worsening crisis in Mali, exploring themes of exile, resistance, and the traditional concept of assouf (longing). Featuring collaborations with members of Tinariwen, the project blends "Ishumar" guitar rock with hypnotic folk meditations. Twenty years into their career, Tamikrest remains dedicated to their cultural mission, using their music as a vital tool for social awareness and artistic expression amidst ongoing displacement and political upheaval.
