Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the score to the first theatrical Star Wars feature in seven years. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film continues the storyline of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian: set after the fall of the Empire, the fledgling New Republic recruits legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu to push back against scattered Imperial warlords. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.
The music is by Swedish-American composer Ludwig Göransson, a three-time Academy Award winner (Black Panther, 2018; Oppenheimer, 2023; Sinners, 2025). Göransson returns to the franchise after scoring the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, for which he created the now-iconic recorder-led, spaghetti-western-tinged main theme. For the film he significantly expanded his sonic palette: scoring sessions took place during the first half of January 2026 at the Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles with a 105-piece orchestra (up from the 70-piece ensemble used on the series) and a 64-voice choir, scaling the intimate, "mythic loneliness" of the show into a full theatrical canvas.
Musically the score preserves the signature "space western" identity — recorder timbres, metallic percussion textures, and Mando's whistling counter-theme appear from the very opening of "This Is the Way." A triumphant fully orchestral rendition of the main theme anchors the title cue "The Mandalorian and Grogu," while action set pieces — "Rotta Chase," "The Helmet," "The Pit Fight" — develop motifs first heard in the series. Other familiar themes return: Grogu's wondrous theme gets an extended atmospheric treatment in "Grogu's World," and the triumphant Mandalorian Creed motif is given a bombastic new orchestral and choral arrangement in "All Weapons Hot." Eerie synth textures in "The Twins" establish a new motif for the film's villainous Hutt twins. The diegetic, jazz-inflected source cue "Hugo Durant's Snack Shack" — featuring guitarist Andreas Öberg, violinist Luanne Homzy, and bassist Mike Valerio — stands apart as a stylistic curio. The digital edition arrived on May 15, 2026, a week ahead of the film's theatrical release — a deviation from Disney-era same-day soundtrack drops; a standard 12" vinyl edition with thirteen cues follows on June 5, and a limited 10" die-cut helmet-shaped collector's edition on May 22.
